3.1.0-beta released!
ShellCore Command Remastered » Devlog
The game has received a large update.
Changes:
- Flak no longer temporarily disable drones unless a certain condition is met.
- Stealth no longer allows regeneration unless a certain condition is met.
- Added gas, a new resource
- Your core absorbs it when within a Gas Vortex. These will pull you and other entities towards the center and destroy entities if they get too close to it.
- Absorbing gas shrinks the vortex and lowers the vortex’s absorption rate. You absorb gas faster the closer you are to the center and the larger the vortex is.
- When you die, your core will lose 100 gas if you have it.
- DeadZones spawn much larger gas vortices.
- You can make sectors spawn gas vortices in the World Creator.
- Abilities can now be Gas Boosted, which confer unique buffs:
- Gas Boosting drains gas at a rate of 0.25 per second per Gas Boosted ability.
- Most abilities get a 25% cooldown reduction with the exception of the following:
- Damage Boost instead switches to a flat damage increase of 200 per projectile.
- Ion tracking speed is doubled
- Cannons will instantly destroy their targets 2% of the time.
- Beam strikes 3 times instead of once.
- Bullets pierce and can hit 3 enemies in total.
- Stealth allows regeneration when active.
- Flak projectiles temporarily disable drones.
- Your core absorbs it when within a Gas Vortex. These will pull you and other entities towards the center and destroy entities if they get too close to it.
- Added Part Fusion
- The Fusion Station, a new entity, can be interacted with to access part fusion.
- Fusion allows you to select two parts in your inventory. The part ID of the former and the ability data of the latter are combined to form a final part.
- Fusion costs Fusion Energy, a new resource made by combining gas and shards
- You do not lose any fusion energy on death
- Fusion completes the part index entry of the final part if it is in the part index.
- You cannot fuse shiny parts.
- Added a new mission to the main world: Gas Gas Gas, which explains gas and part fusion.
- Added Radar, a new ability
- This ability will mark unseen sectors on the map. If you’ve seen them all, it will randomly select a sector.
- Entering a radar-marked sector will confer to you a boost to your shiny drop rate. The more you enter, the higher your odds get up to a maximum of 10%
- Dying, obtaining a shiny part drop, or activating radar when you already have a marked sector will reset your odds.
- Fixed Abandonment looping when you’ve completed it
- Filters/the search bar will reset when you select drones in the Drone Workshop
- Ion will now detach the part it hits rather than random parts
- The EP3 factions have had their colors tweaked.
- Floating particles now twinkle a little, have had their perspectives fixed and density adjusted
- Fixed shards becoming untargetable when dragged out of a sector
- Active regen active time 7s → 5s
- Active regen shell/energy heal per second 150 → 500
- Fixed some part index performance issues
- Added an outline to the entity name in dialogue for legibility
- Added new music courtesy of FlightWish:
- music_fast_5
- music_fast_6
- music_fast_7
- music_wc_4
- music_overworld_4
- Added some more CoreScript features (trading inventories and gas collection detection mainly)

It is incredibly difficult to absorb gas from smaller vortexes(vorteces?) (the big ones in the Deadzones are fine, this is about the smaller ones outside of them) as a larger core, as the vortex kills you instantly if you reach its center, which is easy to do as a large ship.
Vortexes(?) smaller than your current Core should perhaps deal damage over time instead. This may be difficult to implement. If it has to be a huge amount of it, so be it, though if people are looking at the map as they're moving, dying to a random small vortex they couldn't see, dying instantly and losing 100 gas is a bit annoying, if not a bit of a pain.
